The Mavrilou Barrow Mills, a unique sight in the excursions of Karpenisi, was reconstructed and operated as it was two centuries ago.
From Mavril, the chieftains of the revolution of 1821, the gunmen for their weapons, were supplied.
Every year, the Chestnut Festival is organized by the Pan-Hellenic Union of Mavriliotas.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Mavrilo is a mountainous village (at an altitude of 920 meters) situated on Velouchi slope. It is located 65 km west of Lamia and 25 km east of Karpenissi.
It is a Municipal District of the Municipality of Agios Georgios Timfristos.
The original name was Peaks (due to a position beneath the Velouchi Mountains) but on the Ottoman Empire it was renamed Mavril (also referred to as Maurillo, Mavrillo, Mavrillo and Mavrilo).
There are two assumptions about the origin of the name. That Mavril means the place where Black-matter is made, that is, the barutist: because of the bar-mills that existed in the village.
The other version is that Mavrillo is called because of the dark-lobster forest surrounding the village (mainly from dark-black fir-woods).

The village is full of springs, grooves and streams that were used in the past not only for watering but as a driving force of watermills for flour milling and barrels.
The main source of the village is called Goura (this word in Slavic means a great source) and is one of the sources of the river Spercheus.
